              Meeting Facilitation

              Class Size: 5-7 Participants
              Length: 1-2 Days

The purpose of this course is to help participants improve their ability to run successful small-group meetings. This involves:

              • Knowing the various roles within a meeting.
              • Practicing facilitation in a safe, controlled environment.
              • Identifying specific areas for future practice and development.

The course content is presented by lectures, instructor-led discussions, individual and small-group exercises, and videotaped practice sessions.

The presentation activities and critique by peers and instructors are the keys to the success of the course.

The course is intended for anyone who will be involved in maintaining data within the purchasing function once a strategic sourcing project is handed over by Gibson Consulting. It is also useful for anyone responsible for managing large amounts of data.

This course should be considered whenever you are implementing, seeking to improve, or attempting to maintain a team or small-group based initiative. It is most effective before starting a major project, implementing team-based quality programs, developing a matrix management format, or other group activities. It is also an excellent tool to help rejuvenate and refocus such efforts. Finally, consider this course when feedback indicates that teams are not effective and efficient.

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

              • Describe the role of the facilitator.
              • Identify the skills and techniques of a successful facilitator.
              • Select the appropriate structure, format, and strategy to achieve a specific outcome.
              • Facilitate small-group meetings to arrive at specific outcomes.
              • Stress development of new ideas through use of facilitative techniques such as brainstorming.
